El Chaltén and Calafate, Fitz Roy and Perito Moreno

The journey to El Chalten from Esquel has been long ...
It begin 5 hours delay, at 4:30 in the morning instead of 11:30!

The route passes through some very amazing desert landscapes. It remembers me the center of Australia!
The road is paved only in some sections.
We stop for lunch in the village Perito Moreno. A village 500 km away from any other.

I arrive in El Chalten at 4 am ... We walk around the village looking for accommodation, but nothing. Xavier, I and 5 people from the bus we sleep at the bus station. We wake up when it starts to arrive some buses at the terminal and we had breakfast.

We leave part of the luggage in a hostel, and we went to the supermarket to buy supplies for 3 days. And we go walking in to the Parque Nacional de los Glaciares.

Parque Nacional de los Glaciares: Fitz Roy and Laguna Torre.

Day 1. We ascend to the Laguna torre where we found the Glaciar Torre and we rest a bit with the Cerro Torres at the background and continue the route to the Laguna Hija and Laguna Madre to finish at the Campamento Poicenot where we plant the tents and prepare dinner watching the majestic Fitz Roy peak and go to sleep soon. We are very tired.

Day 2. Big lunch and go up to the viewpoint of the Laguna de las Tres, a strong climb to reach the foot of Fitz Roy. Spectacular! We have no rush and we're there for a while contemplating the majesty of the place.
After downloading, we take towards to the Laguna de las Piedras Blancas, where we see the glacier of the same name. Tremendous!
We return to the camp for dinner and we went to bed soon ...

Day 3. I sleep till late....
Close up the camp and take direction to El Chaltén again. The views of Fitz Roy are spectacular. We stop at Mirador Fitz Roy and we get to the village at lunchtime.
Shower and a few beers with the mountains at the background.

We had pizza for dinner...

The next morning we took a bus to Calafate. I want to see the Perito Moreno Glacier and Xavier wants to take a bus to Usuhaia (he already has seen). After buying the bus ticket to go to the glacier, I look somewhere to sleep. Camping ...

And to the glacier!
I stay for 4 hours and I look the glacier from all possible perspectives. It's great! The sound of ice breaking up is permanent ... I see some ice blocks as they fall to the turquoise waters to the lake ...

When I return to Calafate I meet again with Xavier to say goodbye ... Dinner at the campsite where I meet a group of three French that they were starting his trip by bicycle from Calafate to Peru through the Chilean Carretera Austral.
Someday I’ll do it ... is on my list.

The next day I catch the bus to Puerto Natales. At the Bus I meet again with Judith and I know Karim (London - Libya).

Towards the Chilean border!
